Crossbar goes “Ding” and 3 Assists go down well 7198-2043-066
Well,
As most of you know, I play hockey.
Love it. Can’t get enough. It’s like a hunger. Insatiable… (There’s my Colbert Report rambling gone)
Anyway, today we played the Pirates (first game back after a very long 3 week break) and it quickly turned into a rout. After my first shift – about a minute of ice-time – (what? We get tired, so we rotate) we were up 3-0. Now this is not by any stretch of the imagination normal. Usually, a 3-0 game is considered GREAT. But 3-0 after a shift?? That’s INSANE. By the end of the period it was 4-0 and we were pretty much in autopilot for a while.
The Second period proved much of the same… We scored about 3 minutes in, and made it 5-0, then quickly following that, again, making it 6-0.
This is where it gets funky. At the end of the Second, they got a double penalty (One got 2PIM for Roughing, and the Goalie got 2PIM for unsportsmanlike conduct or some crap like that (Turns out he punched the Ref)). So they were two men down, making it a 5 on 3 game, which carried over into the Third.

Off the first faceoff, Kurt gets on a breakaway and puts a (very good) shot on net, but the goalie saves it and freezes the puck forcing a faceoff in their zone.
Now for those of you who know nothing about hockey, I’ve made a little diagram:

The Black circles are the Pirates players (notice the 3 + the goalie)

The Green circles are the Bears players (notice the three in the faceoff circle)

The Light Blue circle is Tommy (the other Defender on my line)

The Dark Blue circle is Me (Hence the “Me” under it)
Now what happened was this:
- Richard wins the faceoff, passes it back to Tommy
- Tommy checks the zone, decides to pass it to Me
- I receive the pass, decide to put a slapshot on net
- Shot fires towards the net…
- …And dings off the crossbar.
Talk about unlucky.
An inch to the right and it would’ve been a goal.
Anyway, we ended up winning 7-0 (A MASSIVE win in hockey), and I ended up with 3 Assists (Bringing my yearly total up to 4).
So I’m happy…
But it was an inch off being much cooler.
