The Impression that I get… 7217-1416-031
Well the first week back after the break has come and gone, and I think we can all say:
“I WANT MY HOLIDAYS BACK!!!”
First off, I would like to take some time to bitch about the y10 ”Who Wants to be a Millionare?” house competition which was held on Thursday.
WHAT THE F@#K IS WITH THE GODDAMN (no pun intended) RELIGIOUS QUESTIONS??
Fair enough, one is acceptable considering the fact that Haileybury is a religious school, but 2 questions about the bible DIRECTLY AFTER THE OTHER, is completely bullshit.
I was the representative for Sholto (Along with Mully), and I was doing fantastic up until the $4,000 question (Hadn’t used a life-line yet), which was:
“In the Old Testament, An angel with a flaming sword stops Adam and Eve from returning to:
A: Eden B: <Somewhere else, which sounded biblical>
C: <Somewhere else again> D: <Somewhere again>”
Now not being a theologian, (Actually being an Atheist) I had thought it was Eden, but I wasn’t sure. So, I used my 50-50 and got two eliminated (Eden and something else was left), so I chose Eden, and luckily got it right.
I had a huge sigh of relief, then braced myself for the $8,000 question…
(Which Was):”
“In the Bible, where was Moses given the 10 Commandments???
A: Mount Ararat B: Mount of Olives
C: Mount Sinai D: Mount Everest”
At this point I’m really getting shitty, and I had a few stern words to Rogo (I think that’s his name, the guy who ”adjudicated” the house drama) about it.
Now out of those 4, which is the only one that *really* sounds biblical??? The Mount of Olives. (Sinai kinda sounds Middle-Eastern, but Olives fits with all the “Goodness” that the bible preaches).
Now I’m thinking “I’m not going to waste a lifeline on this piece of crap”, so I go for Mount of Olives…
Of course, the answer is Sinai.
The moral of the story is:
Religion (Especially Christianity) has too much control over our school, especially when we live in a so-called “Multi-Cultural Society”.
Kids are forced to study religion up until and including year 10 (I’m not sure about 11), and these classes are dominated by Pro-Christian, Anti-Everything Else, views. I for one am absolutely furious that on our VCE reports (Ie when we finish school) it will have at the top: “Religion and Society ~ S/N”, when we did not choose to undertake the course. WE WERE FORCED. As an atheist, I want absolutely no part of religion in my education; I can accept that many people believe in a supernatural being, but it is downright offensive that they impart their beliefs upon me.
My VCE report will be a mainstay for any pre-requisites ever scrutinised for tertiary education and jobs, and I do not want the first thing on my list to be “Religion and Society”.
And that is that,
The End.
TRK
~EDIT~
I wrote this post as a rant, and I stand by it.

Having an whinge are we? You’ll get over it.
And you should probably accept things the way they are, because some people can’t be changed. They will naturally try to assume their beliefs on you and you need to get used to it.
And as for being forced to do the subject? Admit it, it wasn’t (isn’t) that bad. It gave us all a chance to drift off and go to sleep for a period. The subject was easy and was mostly about cricket scores for us (which was a nice bedtime story). If we did talk about topic, it was always about society and how we define who we are. Almost no bible stuff…
Also, it looks good on your final certificate for if you just so happen to get a religious boss.
Really has no downsides except boring as all hell!
Yeah,
But still, I like whingeing, makes me feel better
If you don’t want religion in your education then you should take that up with your parents who “chose” to send you to a Uniting church affiliated school. There are plenty of non-denomination schools around ie. public that I’m sure would fit in with your views.
What’s with the ““chose”” in inverted commas???
